Natural swimming pool – chemical-free
For those who prefer staying on-site rather than heading to the nearby beach, our natural swimming pond in front of the house offers a refreshing alternative. Spanning 300 square meters, it is one of the highlights of Quintamar. The pond features a swimming zone in the center and a regeneration zone along the edges, where plants and microorganisms naturally purify the water. Your skin will appreciate the chlorine- and chemical-free water as you cool off here.
The regeneration zone is also home to frogs. On occasion, a local stork has stopped by to enjoy the rich buffet of this “well-set table.”
Child friendly surroundings
Behind the house, there’s a delightful children’s playground featuring a trampoline and a pirate ship, perfect for young adventurers. Adjacent to the playground is the Quintamar Zoo, home to chickens, ducks, and two adorable Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs that love receiving kitchen scraps from enthusiastic little helpers.
Quintamar also boasts doves, rabbits, guinea pigs, and a cozy chicken yard, making it a haven for animal-loving children. A sandpit, a charming play area, and open lawns provide endless opportunities for fun and games. For the grown-ups, there is a basketball court, a barbecue area and patios facing both south and north offer the perfect spots to enjoy outdoor meals, whether you prefer basking in the sun or relaxing in the shade.
Beaches
The lagoon of Santa Luzia can be reached from Quintamar in 15 minutes’ walk. From here a miniature railway brings you to Barril beach, a former tuna fishing residence, now offering refreshment and food in two cafes. During summer months a water taxi service takes passengers to a quieter beach from Santa Luzia. The quality of sea water is one of the best in Europe, local beaches qualify for the EU blue flag. Low and high tide enriches the experience of this nature spot.
Barril beach is always popular but never gets too overcrowded, if you seek more privacy just keep walking along the beach to the right. The left hand side brings you to the Santa Luzia beach, Terra Estreita and eventually after about 45 minutes walk to the Isla Tavira which is as far as one can walk without getting wet. The island continues on the other side of the breakwater towards Cabanas.
Shopping and restaurants
Santa Luzia, a charming fishing village, is just a 15-minute walk from Quintamar. Along its picturesque promenade, you’ll find inviting restaurants and small shops. A short drive away lies the historic town of Tavira, brimming with unique charm, cozy cafés, delightful restaurants, and lively summer events.
